Develop a Public-Private Partnership on City Land

Work with City to acquire land for private use

NEED
The City of Chicago needed to redevelop an important site and meet the service needs of a community. The local Alderman called us to develop a phased project in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood, which at the time was considered a “food desert.”

Q2 PROCESS
We worked with City staff to prepare a redevelopment plan and agreement for this location. The phased project commenced with a LaSalle branch bank and continued to include a Save-A-Lot grocery and smaller tenants. Also, because the grocery needed more parking, we expanded the redevelopment plan to include additional spaces.

RESULTS
The Auburn Gresham community, LaSalle Bank (now Bank of America), Save-A-Lot and the small tenants continue to benefit from the project. The community has a healthy choice grocery and good jobs and the tenants have successful stores. We established a working relationship with Save-A-Lot and LaSalle Bank during this project and became preferred developers for both companies.
